Mayor of Kota Kinabalu, Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, officiated the opening ceremony of Grand Merdeka Mall at Bandar Sierra this morning, June 2.
Despite the setbacks posed by the sluggish market, this family-oriented mall completed within te projected timeframe.
Speaking at his opening speech, Yeo said: "Under my tenure, the city is fortunate to have supportive developers in spurring and revitalizing Kota Kinabalu. New initiatives must be taken to develop our city in a sustainable manner".
He added that one of the initiatives is to simplify procedures and red tapes involved in Preliminary Engineering Plans (PEP) approved process by submitting the Development Plan and PEP simultaneously.
Yeo also commended Grand Merdeka for taking the initiative to further develop the Northern Corridor of Kota Kinabalu.
Director of Grand Merdeka Development, Mr Chew Sang Hai took the opportunity to introduce GM Mall to the public, having mark another important milestone into the books.
"As at today, we have about 50 shops under renovation and some of which are open for business", said Chew.
He added that amongst the anchor tenants opened today are Food Craze, SS Supersave and Fun Scapes Amusement Centre.
