Sabah Economy Undergoes Transformation With Jesselton New City

With the Skytrain now under exploration phase, a bright future awaits for Sabah’s economy with the multi billion ringgit project, Jesselton New City.

This 30 acre project which comprises a resort, a cruise ship harbour and a theme park, aimed to be a major attraction has an estimated development value worth RM5 billion and is expected to complete within six years.

According to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, investors from Hong Kong and China are determined to invest in the Skytrain project as well as Jesselton New City.

“Investors are now providing Sabahans and visitors to the state with this opportunity,” he said upon witnessing the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between WHSB Ventures Sdn Bhd (WVSB) which has collaborated with Vizione Construction Sdn Bhd, Sycal Skycity Sdn Bhd and Guangcai China (M) Sdn Bhd for the development of the Skytrain.

The Skytrain is mapped up to connect Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) to Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through the city’s downtown area.

He added that Jesselton New City plays an important role in the development of the Skytrain as it will be part of the second phase known as KKIA Express Line 2.

He assured that the development will not affect the marine ecosystem and diving spots nearby as issues of the reclamation of the sea for the development arose.

Moreover, public spaces in the city will also remain untouched.
