Sabah Is an Important Location

Kota Kinabalu: Many efforts had been done to promote China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Sabah, said Chinese Consul-General in Kota Kinabalu, Liang Caide.

Liang said Malaysia, particularly Sabah is a very important location in the initiative.

"Malaysia was one of the first countries which responded positively towards the initiative," he said during a courtesy call by Sabah Journalists Association's (SJA) committee members at the China Consulate-General, here, Tuesday.

"More Chinese companies are interested to invest in Sabah due to the initiative.

"Sabah has a unique advantage, in terms of geography, resources and human capital, and that is why it offers good potential for trade."

Currently, he said, there are a number of investments from Chinese enterprises in the State.

"The investments were made in various sectors such as construction, manufacturing and tourism.

"Even though there are many companies from China which invested in Sabah, there are still rooms for more collaboration," he said.

And as the Consul-General, Liang said it is his priority to promote and sustain such cooperations.

During the courtesy call lead by SJA president Muguntan Vanar, Liang was briefed on the association's background and activities, as well as the State's media fraternity.

Muguntan also proposed for a media briefing on the latest development in China to be conducted.

"We will put this proposal into consideration...perhaps we could hold a forum or a workshop on this matter," said Liang.

Liang also thanked the media here for its objective reporting and the standard of professionalism in news coverage for their events.

"We hope to maintain the good relationship with the media," said Liang, who was also briefed on the upcoming Kinabalu Shell Press Awards (KSPA) co-organised by SJA, the State Government and Shell to be held here on Nov 17.
