DBKK Must Get Tough With Likas Developer for Noise Pollution

Junz Wong, the Likas State Assemblyman, as well as residents living near a construction site opposite the All Saint's school in Likas, wants the relevant authorities to take action against an errant developer who has been carrying out works beyond the normal working hours.

In a statement, Junz said the residents have complained of many inconveniences, in particular, being unable to have a good night's sleep due to the unbearable noise coming from the construction site.

"We have approached Kota Kinabalu City Hall on several occasions seeking their intervention, but the problem persists, and just a couple of nights ago, the residents complained again" he said.

Junz, the Warisan Sabah vice president also made available a short messaging system (SMS) sent to him by an irate constituent.

"Dear YB, I am sorry to disturb you at this hour, and I do understand you are running busy with all your jobs, but the above-mentioned construction site is giving us the same problem repeatedly.

"Without fail tonight they are on their month's-end machine roaring and banging routine again, Mr Nic (Nicholas Chak, an aide to Junz) has been helping us to bring the matter to the DBKK, but… it seems like we, the Likas residents need your support to relay a stronger message to DBKK bosses.”

Junz said that upon receiving the message, two of his aides, Nicholas and Jack visited the construction site (on Sept 27, 2017, at 11.52pm) to lodge a complaint with the contractor and insisting that they cease work.

"This inconsiderate and irresponsible action has created much hassle and troubles to the Likas residents living nearby, causing them to lose sleep" added Junz.

"I once again urge City Hall to take stern actions to rectify this issue and to remind the developer to consider the plight of the residents who have children, babies, old parents and they need their sleep.”

He said he would be calling for a dialogue between City Hall and the developer together with the residents to rectify this issue.
