The Ministry of International Trade and Investment Sarawak together with Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and Ernst & Young (EY) awarded six Sarawakians the Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (EOYS) 2021 for their business skills and contribution to the state's economy.

According to SCCI president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, in this 16th edition of the EOYS awards, they have recognised nearly 60 prominent Sarawak businesses as the best in class, the prime movers that drive the state’s path and economic growth.

“We are here to recognise and celebrate their success, ingenuity, ideas, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work which have built their businesses and contributed to the growth of Sarawak's economy,” he added.

He stated that the Covid-19 pandemic had a significant impact on the state's economy, but said entrepreneurs in the state had established resilience in the face of the worldwide catastrophe.

He went on to say that the state administration was fully aware of the difficult economic situation and was committed to stimulating economic growth while closing the development gap in the state so that it could attain developed status by 2030.

Abang Abdul Karim also praised Delta Leasing and Benchmark Health Sdn Bhd. for their contributions to the success of the ceremony.

SCCI vice president Datuk Dr Philip Ting also addressed that the EOYS Adjudicating Committee nominate EOYS Award winners to represent Sarawak at the EY Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) Malaysia Awards.

Ting added, the EOYS awards provide a chance for awardees to network with business colleagues as well as get important media exposure, enhancing their personal and corporate profile.

He explained further that the programme gave inspired entrepreneurs, creative thinkers, and game-changers a place to come together and connect while also developing their network.
