Removing Pungent Smells From Your Home

Remember the durian you ate last week? Or the belacan you fried a few days ago that you can still smell until now? Although food smells good at first, the smell can however leave a trace and become unpleasant sooner or later. It’s important that you maintain a pungent smell-free home to live comfortably.

Despite food being the common source of these smells, you might want to investigate further, who knows it might be coming from any drains in the house. Clogged drains can bring a horrid smell to your home before you realise.

Yet different parts of the house have different ways of deodorising. Whether it be the bedroom, bathroom, or even the living room.

Bedroom

Mattresses tend to leave a musty smell or smell of mildew if not aired or cleaned after some time. These smells can be the result of urine, vomit, sweat, or even the drool you left the night before. You could give your mattress a “bath” by sprinkling some baking soda,  letting it sit, and then vacuuming it up. Or if you want to run away from all that hassle, just a spray of mattress freshener such as Febreze will do the trick.

If you don’t have wardrobe dehumidifiers, you might want to consider getting one or change your wardrobe into ones without doors. Having a closed wardrobe would be good, however, leaving them closed can cause trapped moisture in small spaces giving out an unpleasant smell on your clothes.

Living Room

If ventilation is occasional, installing a ventilation system will provide continuous air renewal. This is also a solution for rooms without windows.

Being in public spaces, carpets are prone to smells. Carpets do not have an unpleasant odour. Instead, scents come from the contents of carpets. Food, human waste, soil, and pollen can all become sources of odour if they get caught in carpet fibres or backing materials over time.

All it takes is a sprinkle of baking soda, just like mattresses, and you're ready to go.

Bathroom

Cleaning your bathroom often is important to prevent infections and illnesses from occurring. Do try to maintain a clean bathroom every few days or every week. Surely you wouldn’t want your bathroom smelling like sewage.

You could also place a bottle of bathroom perfume spray, so whoever uses the bathroom next, could be sure to spray some.
