Sin Onn Market, Next Tawau Hotspot

A three-day Mid-Autumn Festival 2019 will be held at the open space of Sin Onn market with an aim to make the market among tourism hotspots in the district.


The Mid-Autumn Festival 2019 will be jointly held by Jimmy’s office with collaboration from Sri Tanjong community development leader unit office, Tawau Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Hap Seng Group and six clan associations (Hakka, Teo Chew, Sze Yip, Fook Chow, Hokkien and Hai Nam) on September 5-7.



State Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister-cum-Sri Tanjong Assemblyman Datuk Jimmy Wong said the festival is one of the important festivals for Chinese community and it is celebrated through a varied activities such as lantern-making competition, lantern exhibition, cultural performance, entertainment and traditional food-selling.



Lantern making competition is divided into Student and Open category. The participants design their lantern creatively based on their understanding to the lively atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival. 

In Student category, the top prize is RM1,000 while first-runner-up, RM500 and second runner-up, RM300. There also will have five consolation prizes of RM100 each.



In Open category, the top prize is RM3,000 while first runner-up, RM2,000 and second runner-up, RM1,000. There is also eight consolation prizes comprising RM100 each. The lantern will be displayed at 1 Arena for judgement and public viewing.

On June 20, Wong together with the organising committee paid a courtesy call on Consul- General Liang Caide in Kota Kinabalu where he agreed to sponsor the event.
