Malaysian Institute of Architects and Z&SR Architectural Ventures Awards Local Talents in Architecture

Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), also known as the Malaysian Institute of Architects, in collaboration with Z&SR Architectural Ventures Sdn.Bhd. (ZSR) had awarded the winners of the PAM-ZSR 2018 competition at PAM headquarters previously on 8 March 2019.

The competition started mid last year with the aim of providing recognition to outstanding young local talents for their creative and innovative designs and to recognize architecture education and its role in grooming future architects in Malaysia.

Divided into two categories, the competition is for Malaysian students who have not completed their architecture programme (Part I) and for students who have completed their first year in Masters of Architecture (Part II).

As of 5 October 2018, the competition received a total 93 entries with 58 entries from Part I and 35 entries from Part II. The Master Jury comprises of five esteemed members namely Deputy PAM President Ar. Sarly Adre Sarkum, Prize Benefactor Ar. Zaini Mufti, Honorary PAM Secretary Ar.Erdayu o'Shara, Architecture Academician Prof. Madya Dr. Zalina Shari and Human Resources Specialist Hizwani Hassan had reviewed the designs submitted.

During the event, PAM President Ar. Ezumi Harzani shared that the initiative was to empower Malaysian students to have a deeper sense of responsibility for the built environment as well as to inculcate passion within them to create architecture of excellence.

"We wanted to provide a platform where they could unleash their untapped potential, gain in-depth experience and exposure before they kick-start their careers in the world of architecture, we should take pride in their work as they represent the future," he added.

The participants are representing local universities such as University Technology Malaysia, University of Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia, University Tunku Abdul Rahman, UCSI University, Taylor's University, International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara (Puncak Alam) and Universiti Teknologi Mara (Shah Alam).
