State Government Contributes to City Hall for Infrastructure Projects

The Kota Kinabalu City Hall received an allocation of RM37.5 million from the state government to implement various infrastructure projects and development, this year.

Mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai said the implementation of infrastructure projects, public utilities and services this year will amount to RM24.7 million and the remaining RM12.8 million for development.

He said, in addition to the state government, the federal government also provides annual grants of RM3.95 million to the City Hall.

"My deepest appreciation to the government on the allocation of funds to the City Hall so that we can deliver the best services to the residents of the city.

"This year, the estimated management revenue is approximately RM138.0 million while the operating expenditure was RM137.8 million.

"There is a financial surplus of only RM200,000 but this budget will be reviewed from time to time to ensure that the City Hall is able to give priority to services" he said.

He was speaking at the presentation of Instruments of Appointment to members of the City Hall Advisory Board at the City Hall here yesterday.

Also present were the Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs, Datuk Jainab Ahmad, Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and the minister responsible for the City Hall, Datuk Edward Yong, Deputy City Police Chief Supt George Abdul Rakman, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Janet Chee, Public Works Department Director Datuk Haji Amrullah Kamal, director-general of the City Hall and secretary of the Advisory Board, Datuk Joannes Solidau and his deputy, Bahari Haji Hassan.

Yeo, who is also chairman of the Advisory Board said he will work closely with its members so their input and views are taken into account in the planning and development of the city of Kota Kinabalu.

"I hope appointed members of the Advisory Board will be able to contribute more effectively based on their field of expertise.

"We must act as a team, work in harmony and with integrity in carrying out the mandate entrusted by the government and the people" he said.
