OYO to Add 50 Hotel Operators to Help Meet Malaysia’s Tourism Targets in 2024

Global hospitality technology company OYO has announced that it is planning to onboard 50 hotel operators in Malysia to boost its self-managed hotel program. The program will help hotel operators expand their business and generate more revenue and achieve long term profitability through the recently announced self-operated hotels program in Malaysia. OYO recently announced that it will open 100 new managed hotels in the country in 2024.

The initiative is focused at helping the government meet its tourism target by promoting entrepreneurship in the hospitality industry and creating more avenues for quality accommodation. It will also enhance the company’s footprint in the region while empowering local hotel owners with cutting-edge technology and operational expertise.

OYO will support hotel operators in Malaysia to innovate and enter new markets, expand their customer base, and increase earnings. This support includes mentorship, access to cutting-edge technology, dedicated relationship managers, and access to OYO’s extensive network of over 650 corporate accounts and more than 300 travel agents across Malaysia, all aimed at boosting business prospects.

OYO will leverage its global marketing reach to promote participating hotels in Malaysia, increasing their visibility and attracting more guests. OYO will offer training programs for hotel staff to improve service quality and guest satisfaction, helping hotels achieve higher ratings and reviews. OYO will conduct regular quality checks and audits to ensure that participating hotels maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and guest satisfaction.

OYO aims to increase the number of these hotels under its brands such as Townhouse Oak, OYO Townhouse, Collection O and Capital O. OYO is focusing on regions such as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Kota Kinabalu for expansion.

Malaysia's tourism sector is poised for substantial growth following the country's impressive 32.5% year- on-year increase in overseas tourists in the first quarter of 2024. This significant uptick not only indicates a resurgence in travel but also sets the stage for the government to achieve its ambitious tourism targets for the year. Malasia is expecting 27.3 million tourists and aiming for 102.7 billion ringgits in tourist expenditure for 2024

The surge in overseas tourists presents a tremendous opportunity for the hotel industry in Malaysia. With the influx of visitors, hotels have the potential to significantly increase their occupancy rates and revenue. The government's commitment to meeting its tourism targets further reinforces the positive outlook for the hotel sector.

Speaking on the development, Akshay Rathod, Country Head, OYO Malaysia said “OYO is committed to playing a supportive role in driving the growth of Malaysia's hospitality industry through our innovative approach. OYO's unique business model enables hotel owners to transform their properties into high-quality, standardized accommodations, thereby improving the overall guest experience. By leveraging this opportunity, hotels in Malaysia can tap into a thriving market and contribute to the overall growth and success of the country's tourism industry.
