Borders Are Now Open! Sabah Has Announced Guidelines for International Travellers Coming Into Sabah

The Sabah State Government has released guidelines for entry into Sabah for international travellers. The pre-entry requirements are aligned with the national level, but some measures are specific for Sabah via air, land or sea.

These are the requirements travellers must take note of before travelling:

  1. Make sure you have a MySejahtera account

  2. Fill up the digital pre-departure form via the traveller icon on MySejahtera

  3. Verify your digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate on mysafetravel.gov.my

  4. Take a pre-departure Covid-19 RT PCR test within 2 days of departure.

  5. Purchase a Covid-19 travel insurance

Upon arrival, travellers are required to undergo an RTK-Antigen test done by trained healthcare personnel at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, before Immigration clearance at all Points of Entry into Sabah.

The RTK-Antigen test is conducted to determine whether or not the person is a potential threat to public health. Personal or pre-purchased RTK-saliva tests are not allowed.

5 days of mandatory quarantine is required for partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers. Quarantine is also applicable to those who are tested positive upon arrival. All visitors are required to stay in designated Quarantine Areas.

Transit passengers via KLIA / KLIA are allowed to Undergo an RTK-Antigen test done by trained healthcare personnel at their first Point of Entry into Malaysia.

Quarantine and transportation charges are applicable for travellers who are tested positive for the RTK-antigen or who are found to be partially vaccinated upon arrival. The Health Ministry has provided further details regarding quarantine and transportation charges on the MySafeTravel website.

Children and adolescents below 18 years old (based on the date of birth) are exempted from quarantine unless detected positive for COVID-19 upon arrival.

Those who have had a COVID-19 Infection between 6 to 60 days before departure are required to undergo an RTK-Antigen test within 2 days of arrival.
