Short-Circuit Disrupts Luyang-Kolombong Lights

A technical fault rendered the streetlights in one part of Luyang and Kolombong out of order for close to a fortnight recently.

A City Hall spokesman said a check revealed that a short-circuit was disrupting the supply to these facilities at the former location.

“The power for the lights between the Foh Sang and Lintas Flyover traffic light intersections was found to be tripping,” he said.

“The contractor, responsible for maintaining the streetlights, had to reset a mechanism inside the control panel for these facilities before this part of the main road was properly lit again.”

He urged the drivers to report any irregularities with the lights directly to City Hall, so that the agency could take the necessary action as soon as possible.

VERON of Luyang said several of the lights on the divider between the intersections had been out of order for close to a week.

“There are one of two lights here and there which are functioning but the illumination they provide is largely blocked by the branches and leaves of the trees growing on the divider,” she said.

She said motorists found it difficult to gauge the movement of pedestrians trying to cross Jalan Kolam because of the stretch was unlit.

“This is especially so during a down pour.”

Meanwhile, AARON of Kolombong voiced his displeasure about the lack of illumination along Jalan Mangga.

“Motorists risk colliding with the vehicle ahead of them in the darkness,” he said.

“Traffic on the road can be particularly heavy as the stretch serves as one of the main access points to this industrial.”

The spokesman said a problem with the cable servicing the lights rendered these facilities out of order.

“Our skymaster was deployed to facilitate efforts to have the lights restored,” he said.

“The contractor responsible for maintaining these facilities dealt with the ‘shorting’-issue a few days after we became aware that the area was unlit.”

He said City Hall would keep an eye on both these stretches to ensure that these streetlight woes did not recur. (SS)
