Action Against Developers Not Providing Disabled-Friendly Infrastructure

The Housing and Local Government Ministry through the local authorities will take legal action against any developer not adhering to the rules on providing infrastructure for the disabled in the construction of buildings.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah Raja Ahmad Baharuddin Shah said that based on Section 70 (13) (c) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), developers could be fined not exceeding RM50,000 or jailed for up to three years, or face an additional fine of RM1,000 per day for a continued offence.

“The local authorities can order the principal submitting person (PSP) to make improvements on a building which has not obtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) such as providing infrastructure for the disabled,” he said at the Dewan Rakyat sitting on 8 July 2019.
