Increase Housing Allowance for Sabah, Sarawak

The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has called on the Government to consider reviewing Public Service Fixed Allowance to ease the burden of civil servants in facing the rising cost of living.

Its President Datuk Azih Muda said Cuepacs also asked the Government to review the regional housing allowance for civil servants in Sabah and Sarawak that had not been revised for over 10 years.

"In the meantime, the Government should also replace the new Public Service New Remuneration Scheme (SBPA) that had been cancelled as the new system known as the SST (Transformative Remuneration System) announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2013 does not cover all public service schemes," he told reporters after attending the Bual Bicara, a talk show produced by Bernama News Channel at Wisma Bernama, Wednesday.

Azih said the proposal was based on the current economic situation affecting civil servants as the result of rising prices of goods and the Government should conduct a review on civil servants' salary and remuneration to help reduce the stresses they face.

The Public Service Fixed Allowance had not been revised since the last decade and Cuepacs hoped the Government would pay attention to the welfare of civil servants especially those with families, he said.

It was also suggested that the Public Sector Housing Financing Board (LPPSA) loan interest rate be reduced from four per cent to one per cent to enable more civil servants to own homes from January 1 next year as announced by Najib in the 2018 Budget, Azih said.
