After the prime minister's visit to Kota Kinabalu and the launching of the RM7 billion project, Lok Kawi Resort City, there has been confusion on the status and history of the ownership of the development. 

Is the world-class KK Resort City that launched in 2019 (left in pic), the same as the Lok Kawi Resort City launched yesterday (right in pic)?

Warisan vice-president Datuk Junz Wong has laid claims that the resort city is in fact, due to the hard work of the then party leader, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal two years ago.

This is causing confusion amongst the public about who the owner of the land is. Previously it was said to be owned by KTS Land. 

Malay Mail reports that he said, “This RM7 billion investment was then called KK Resort City. It was brought in by Shafie who was serving as the chief minister of Sabah then," and claims that Shafie had convinced investors that Sabah was the right investment destination for the developers.

“But what did the Umno, PBS, STAR Opposition say back then?”

“They said it was impossible for investors to bring in such huge investments to Sabah, and even went as far as to accuse Shafie of selling Sabah to private developers,” he said.

So is it really the same?

The image above shows plans for multi-billion ringgit mixed developments and has been circulating the internet. The source is unknown and Property Hunter does not claim it to be true. 

From what we gather, the RM7B project illustrated in the picture should be Lok Kawi Resort City, owned by Yayasan Land and the RM5B project is KK Resort City, owned by KTS Land (See Hua). The RM10B project was said to be by a group from China, claiming to build a "world city" but turned out to be ingenuine.
