Elderly Woman Loses RM26,500 in Land Scam
An elderly woman lost RM26,500 after being duped into buying a plot of land in Kampung Sepat here in July.
Pahang Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the 78-year-old victim claimed that she had made several payments, the latest was early this month, to buy the land, valued at RM50,000.
The victim also claimed that she was dealing with two men, one of whom, claimed to be a real estate agent, as they informed her that there was a plot of land for sale in the village.
“She also claimed to have made several payments for various purposes, including legal fees, with the remaining amount to be paid when she obtains the land title.
“The suspects have promised that deal will only take two weeks to be completed, but they often came up with various excuses on why the victim has not received the land title until now,” he told reporters here today.
Mohd Wazir said the victim finally lodged a report at the Kuantan district police headquarters (IPD) yesterday and the investigation was carried out under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
