More Help for Making KK Cleaner

City Hall received communal barrels, road signages and water jet pump in a ceremony during the Creative Upcycle and Eco Bag for Green City programme held at the City Hall Building, Sunday.

Api-Api Assembly Community Development Leader, Grace Lee, represented Deputy Chief Minister cum Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew in presenting the 36 barrels, signages (36) and water jet pump to Mayor Datuk Nordin Siman.

The Creative Upcycle and Eco Bag Green city programme is one of City Hall’s initiatives to reduce the use of plastic bags, in line with the Clean KK campaign launched on Aug 25.

It is held on the third Sunday of every month, in collaboration with various government agencies, non-governmental organisations and the city community.

Nordin said the campaign would focus on a number of specific components, namely education and awareness, to address the issue of waste disposal, single-use plastic and includes recycling and upcycling campaign.

“During this programme we carry out activity using old and used waste materials such as rugs, cloths, aluminum cans to produce new items like shopping bags, women’s accessories and more.

“It is hoped that such a collaboration will help to improve the cleanliness in the city including the issue of garbage on water,” he said.

Meanwhile, City Hall had acted on a claim by a local artist that it had plagiarised his work for a mural painted recently on the staircases at Padang Merdeka.

Nordin said they had held a meeting with the artist, Crig Francis, and he agreed that the painting will be maintained as it is.

“We will be in contact with him (Crig) to make an agreement and to have a good and clear understanding on the matter,” he said.
