Cyberjaya Multimedia Festival Attracts Thousands to the Capital of Creation

Celebrating the best of local creative industries under one roof, the much-anticipated Cyberjaya Multimedia Festival returned for the second time in the city.

The full-day festival themed, ‘Light Up!’ was held in Tamarind Square and it featured an array of interesting activities for the public such as live music performances, special movie screenings, mascot appearances, technology showcases and the inclusion of projection mapping as one of the key highlights of the event.

This year’s Cyberjaya Multimedia Festival (CMF 2019) kicked off in style with special mascot appearances by some of the iconic local animation characters such as Boboiboy, Ejen Ali, Didi & Friends and more. An instant crowd-puller among children and families, the live-sized mascots were seen interacting and singing along to songs with the audience.

Visitors also enjoyed the free movie screenings of movies such as Shazam!, Alita: Battle Angel and BoBoiBoy The Movie at the event throughout the day in the lead-up to the main event taking place after dark.

The second half of CMF 2019 showcased the two main highlights of this year’s event featuring performances by prominent local musicians as well as a first-of-its-kind projection mapping show at Tamarind Square, Cyberjaya.

Notably, the projection mapping showcase curated entirely by a group featuring local creative talents received praise among the audience as the visually-stunning projection mapping show enthralled the audience with its grandeur. Additionally, the event also featured a special light installation that lights up according to the colour tweeted by visitors.

Keeping the crowd on its feet for the night, the CMF 2019 featured an exciting line-up of performances from folk musical trio, The Impatient Sisters, R&B and electro-pop singer, Leaism and popular pop-rock band Azlan the Typewriter, amongst others.

The Impatient Sisters’ rendition of their soulful tunes followed by Leaism’s powerful crooning of her hit singles such as Love and Darkside for the audience, the excitement levels hit the roof with the performance of main act for the night, Azlan The Typewriter, who lived up to the crowd’s excitement as he delivered some of his fan-favourite hits including Lagu Untukmu and Jeritan Batinku. The popular singer also sang a beautiful rendition of Keane’s evergreen, Somewhere Only We Knew for the audience.

Organised by the master developer of Cyberjaya, Setia Haruman, the Cyberjaya Multimedia Festival 2019 was held in conjunction with Southeast Asia’s Kre8tif! Conference and Content Festival, which is an initiative from Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) to develop the creative content industry in Malaysia.
