The construction of 150 houses in the abandoned Gana Resettlement Integrated Development Project Scheme in Sabah will be completed through a RM2.4 million allocation from the Rural Development Ministry.

Kota Marudu District Officer Arnold Joibi said the government had decided that the project should be completed and implemented through the Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) Bhd.

Speaking to Bernama after a one day programme for Village Heads, Native Chiefs and Native Chief Representatives here yesterday, Arnold said he would personally monitor and supervise the project to ensure that it would be completed before the end of the year.

On Aug 5, Bernama reported that the Kota Marudu District Office would prepare a report on an abandoned project involving the construction of 150 houses in the resettlement.

Arnold was quoted as saying that through the report, an investigation would be conducted to identify the cause for construction delay and the report would be submitted to relevant agencies at the state and federal levels.

The relocation scheme implemented in 1997 involved 450 residents from 10 villages located within the Lingkabau Forest Reserve area.

The villages involved are Garung, Kipopogong, Makatol Laut, Makatol Darat, Gouton, Gana, Minsusurud, Nasapu, Toguhu and Sonsogon Paliu.
