Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers' Association (Sheda) Home and Property Roadshow at Commerce Square Mall Bintulu offered 10 per cent discount on selected residential housing units until June 30 this year.

Sheda's vice-chairman cum Bintulu liaison chairman Joshua Sia Kee Wei said this year's roadshow is participated by local developers and those from Peninsular Malaysia.

"The roadshow is held in conjunction with the House Ownership Campaign (HOC) initiated by the Ministry of Finance together with all the property developers' associations in Malaysia," he said during the official opening ceremony here yesterday.

He said buyers who sign the Sale and Purchase Agreement will be entitled to the stamp duty exemptions for purchase of a residential property.

"So this weekend, members of the public will be able to check out all the booths and take advantage of this opportunity to find suitable homes," said Sia.

According to him, Sheda Bintulu has also lined up exciting weekend programmes and activities for potential buyers and members of the public.

Among the activities are singing contest, Chinese brush painting demonstration by Michael Ching, a famous artist in Miri, and lucky draws.

He pointed out that visitors also stand a chance to win daily lucky draw prizes by just registering themselves at the registration area. Furthermore, for buyers who spend a minimum of RM500 or more in a single receipt during the roadshow, they are eligible to participate in the Purchase and Win lucky draw from a range of branded items.

The event was officiated by Tan Kai, a political secretary to the Chief Minister who represented Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.

According to Sia, although Sheda only has only 18 members, they managed to build thousands of residential houses, apartments, condominiums, shophouses and shopping malls in Bintulu for over 40 years.

"Bintulu had evolved from relying on a wood-based economy to a diverse energy, oil palm, oil and gas, heavy industry hub which is sustaining Bintulu's economy presently.

"Sheda Bintulu members will continue to fill the void in housing and property demand here in Bintulu," he added.

He said developers are businessmen with sensitive business senses and they know the economic cycle in the property market.

"They employed thousands of workers and supported hundreds of related businesses and played a pivotal role in Bintulu's economy," Sia said.

With this mission in mind, Sheda Bintulu members he said will continue working together with the ministry and local authorities and agencies to create synergy.

"We hope that the Ministry of Housing will continue to facilitate developers in terms of coming up with friendlier and better housing policies and efficient business environment to further facilitate developers here in achieving common goals," he said.
