The Launching of Kampung Tudan Mushroom Farm

The villagers of Kampung Tudan and Hopes Malaysia have organized a soft launching event for the Kampung Tudan Mushroom Cultivation Project at the project site today.

The project facility construction was started in April 2018 and in October the 4,800 sqft mushroom farm was completed by the villagers. The mushroom cultivation will be done in stages depending on demand. The maximum production can be up to 80kg - 100kg daily when the facility is fully in used. The operation of this mushroom farm is fully carried out by the villagers and assisted by Hopes Malaysia (NGO). The main objective of our community projects is to provide a sustainable and practical solution for the underprivileged community. We hope that through our projects, they are able to uplift their living standard in a sustainable way and provide a better future for their children.

The soft launching event was inducted by Mr. Carlye Lajimin - Political Secretary of Minister of Sabah Rural Development Sabah (YB Datuk Tuan Ewon Benedick). The attendee of the event also included the Mah Sing Foundation's Chairman, Dato' Indera Syed Norulzaman Bin Syed Kamarulzaman and Ms. Lyanna Tew as Senior General Manager, Strategic Communications, Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility at Mah Sing Group Berhad. Mah Sing foundation is the main sponsor for this project. Other sponsors representative such as from Teck Guan, Gammerlite Sdn Bhd and CIMB Bank foundation are also present in the event.

The event was greatly supported by many hotels representatives from Kota Kinabalu such as, Sabah Oriental Hotel, Horizon Hotel, Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort & Spa. The villagers are hoping that the hotels will be the main procurer for their mushroom production. The villagers believe that they are able to make a steady income from this project with a consistent production of mushroom and demand from the market. Apart from alleviating the villagers from poverty, it is also providing financial assistance for the community to fix and upgrade the village facilities, especially in maintaining the 2 kilometers of gravity water system that is benefiting the overall village's 200 population to reduce the dependency on corporate donors and NGOs assistance in a long run.
