NGO Is Told to Refer to the Developer

The Penampang District Council clarified that any problem regarding drainage, roads, streetlights and public areas in the district's new townships are managed by the respective developers. We are willing to extend humanitarian aid if there is a complaint to ensure the cleanliness and conduciveness of the towns are always preserved," a Council spokesman said during a courtesy call by Sabah People's Rights Association led by its President Lee Pun Yee recently.

He said the Council also has no right to prevent apartment dwellers from rearing pets as they are subject to the respective management corporations.

"However, the Council may help to take legal action in the event of any nuisance from the residents," he added.

Apart from that, he said the Council advised all food operators conducting business operations to comply with the prescribed standards such as obtaining Food Handling Certificate and other necessary licenses.

"Traders must also be mindful of not producing noises that can interfere with the residents' comfort at night, especially near the residential area," he added.

He said the discussion also touched on the problem of rubbish collection frequency as there are some housing estates such as Taman Suria is facing with delayed collection. "We promised to look into these problems and we will try to increase the collection schedule if necessary.

"The Council is always concerned about the problems faced by the people and will try to improve the situation as we are prepared to provide venues, facilities and advice to anyone who are facing with problems," he added.

Lee was satisfied with the visit and concluded that the detailed explanation and information presented by the Council had greatly benefited its members to continue serving the people.

Also present were the Association's Vice President Lam Yu Koh, Secretary Tan Cheng Hwee and committee members Chen Hing Hiong and Lily Chong.
