Sabah Can Match Singapore and Dubai, Says Chief Minister

The State Government wants Sabah to be on a par with Singapore and Dubai through the implementation of several transformation programmes, including Tanjung Aru Eco Development (TAED).

Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman said the development of TAED would beautify and further transform the image of Kota Kinabalu as the capital of Sabah through the construction of International standard hotels and various facilities.

TAED is a mega project implemented and supervised by Tanjung Aru Eco Development Sdn Bhd which is wholly-owned by the State Government and expected to be completed in 2019.

Musa said the Federal Government also provided support with an allocation of RM500 million for the development of the project.

"I have big plans, I want for Sabah to be on a par with Singapore or Dubai," he said at the opening ceremony of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandau here Friday.

The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and it was also attended by Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and Sabah Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul.

Musa said the construction of the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), expected to be completed by the end of this year, would be able to attract more tourism activities in the state and boost development in the state.

Commenting on education, he said that the education agenda was the focus of the State Government in ensuring the development of more efficient human capital in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, especially the Prime Minister for being very concerned about the development of education in Sabah through major allocations including improving dilapidated schools in the state.

"We, Sabahans, are very touched with the concern shown by the country's leader and with the improvement of the condition of the schools, learning sessions for children and school teachers will be better and this will encourage outstanding achievement," he said.
