Shopping Malls in KL Urged to Have Certification Programme

The Federal Territories Ministry urged shopping malls in the federal capital to have a quality assurance certification programme for goods and services to enhance the city's image and reputation as an international tourist destination.

Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said the initiative was important to help domestic and foreign tourists to identify shops providing excellent service.

"We need to continue to improve the quality of service as it is one of the major factors influencing tourists' experience and perception of Kuala Lumpur" he said at the Quality Assurance Certification Programme for Traders organised by Low Yat Plaza here today.

He said to complement the shopping infrastructure provided by the government, service quality also played an important role in making Kuala Lumpur's golden triangle area a prime destination for shopping.

Among the criteria evaluated were the authenticity of the products or services offered by traders, as well as having valid business permits or business licences from Kuala Lumpur City Hall, he said.

Earlier, Loga Bala handed over Quality Assurance Certificates to 45 shops at Plaza Low Yat shopping mall.
