The district will hold its first and biggest New Year Countdown which will also set the scene for the launch of "Explore, Experience & Enjoy Penampang Year 2018." Some 5,000 people are expected to join the moment to welcome 2018 at Servay Hypermarket Penampang on Dec 31.

The event is jointly organised by the Penampang District Council, Sabah Tourism Board, Penampang Tourism Action Committee, KW Machinery and Servay Hypermarket Penampang.

"We've been told that it will be the first big New Year Countdown event ever held in the district and we're proud to be part of it," said Yeo Kheng Joo, Servay Hypermarket (Sabah) Assistant Manager.

He said a big stage will be set for all the entertaining performances leading to the countdown, including a crane that will lift some well-known local artistes.

The countdown will warm up on Dec 30 with a long list of activities starting from 9am until 12am. Among the highlights on that day will be a performance by local comedian, Sakinah, as well as Lily and Zackrindin of Ceria Pop Star.

There will also be 50 stalls offering a variety of foods and drinks as well as 10 food trucks.

The fun will continue on the following day with a big fireworks display as the main highlight.

The launch of "Explore, Experience & Enjoy Penampang Year 2018" will be held at 8.30 that evening.
