Budget 2018 to Focus on Economic Growth, Reducing Cost of Living

JOHOR BARU: The upcoming budget will focus on boosting Malaysia's economic growth and address cost of living issues, said Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

The Treasury secretary-general, however, urged the people to wait for more details when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak tables Budget 2018 on Oct 27.

Dr Mohd Irwan was speaking at a press conference following the opening of Bahtera 2017 (Southern Edition) by Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin at Persada Johor International Convention Centre here on Sunday (15 October).

He declined to elaborate whether there would be reductions in individual and corporate taxes.

Dr Mohd Irwan said the country's economy was on a right track and that statistics showed Malaysia enjoyed positive economic growth.

"However, there are certain parties who have been giving the wrong impression and have even painted a bad image that Malaysia is on the verge of bankruptcy," he said.

Dr Mohd Irwan said Malaysians could see for themselves that the economy was moving in the right direction and not the other way round.
