The ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang' campaign and ‘Independence Month' celebration is important to maintain the spirit of loyalty and patriotism among Malaysians, said the Sabah chief minister.

He said the two events were the ideal platform for people to show their appreciation to the country which has given them many opportunities to enjoy the true meaning of independence, said Musa Aman.

"Sabah has enjoyed much development, progress and prosperity due to independence and it have allowed the state government to implement various development projects for the benefit and well-being of the people" he said.

Musa, when launching the state-level celebration here added the upliftment of the socio-economic status, educational opportunities and employment for the people were meaningful.

According to Musa, in order to ensure that all development agenda for the people could be implemented efficiently and thoroughly, the state government would continue to strengthen its relationship with the Federal government.

"This good relationship has allowed the people and the state to benefit from many development projects, besides being given the space and opportunity to contribute more significantly at the national level" he pointed out.

"I would like to emphasise that whatever development policy and programme planned requires strong support and cooperation from all parties, especially under the leadership of Najib Razak, our Prime Minister.”

Earlier, Hajiji Noor, the state-level Independence Month Celebration Standing Committee chairman, said Sabah had undergone an era of significant change and was now rapidly developing in various aspects, including agriculture and tourism, following the formation of Malaysia.
