Young Adults Value PR1MA Homes

Through the 1Malaysia People's Housing Project (PR1MA), many young people, particularly in their 30s, were able to purchase a home at affordable prices.

At PR1MA Corporation's project launches, members of this buyer group have the chance of being among the lucky ones who will finally own their own home.

Other government agencies like the Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Employees Provident Fund (EPF), the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) also set up counters in these events to facilitate their home purchase.

Among the young couples who have succeeded in securing a home during PR1MA's Open Day event at Petaling Jaya on Sunday (7 May) is 26-year-old Thai Yew Kin and his 32-year-old husband Loi Pak Keong.

"I had applied many times for the PR1MA house when I was a bachelor, but never succeed. Now that I am a husband and to be a father in a few months, I finally got the offer, said Loi, who just got married two months ago.

The marketing officer and his accountant wife opted for a three-bedroom flat with two bathrooms at Prima Alam Damai in Cheras priced at RM400,000.

Another successful PR1MA applicant is 31-year-old project engineer Barani Kumar, who chose a two-storey terrace house with three bathrooms and four bedrooms at Prima Rantau in Negeri Sembilan costing RM235,000.

"It will be a wedding gift for my wife" said Kumar, who is tying the knot in August. He was accompanied by his soon-to-be wife, Shanthini Arumugam, 31.

Meanwhile, Prasarana employee Zaid Ihsan Abd Mutalib, 32, never expected that his long wait to purchase a house has ended.

"Eight months ago, I applied for a PR1MA house for an apartment unit at Prima Alam Damai, Cheras, but was unsuccessful. My second application for a house at Prima Rantau in Negeri Sembilan, Alhamdulillah, has been approved.”

To qualify for a PR1MA home, applicants must have a household income of under RM15,000 and must not own any other real estate.

Currently, there are 23 PR1MA housing projects across the nation offered to Malaysian citizens from the public and private sectors, with the agency receiving 1.41 million applications so far.
