MM2H a Let Down in Sabah

SHAREDA's President, Datuk Francis Goh commented on the shocking number of only 300 foreigners who have applied for the MM2H scheme between 2011 - 2015 when the association acquired the data from the immigration department.

Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme is promoted by the Government of Malaysia to allow foreigners who fulfil certain criteria, to stay in Malaysia for as long as possible on a multiple-entry social visit pass.

The Social Visit Pass is initially for a period of ten (10) years and is renewable.

"It is sad to say that MM2H is a failed project in Sabah. The government made little to no initiative to attract foreigners to apply for the MM2H scheme”.

With the State's current low economy, the government should change their strategy and encourage more foreigners to invest in Sabah, especially Kota Kinabalu. Even though there are a lot more than can be done in Kota Kinabalu, the city is nonetheless equipped with facilities and amenities for foreigners to invest and live in.

Goh concluded saying that the government should take more initiative to promote the MM2H scheme. "If MM2H is successful in Sabah, it can improve and boost the State's economy”.

Here's the list of foreigners who have applied for the MM2H scheme from 2011 - 2015.

Australia - 19 Britain - 25 Brunei - 10 Canada - 5 China - 101 Denmark - 2 Finland - 2 Germany - 1 Hong Kong - 8 Indonesia - 16 Iraq - 1 Ireland - 1 Italy - 2 Japan - 37 Korea - 35 Netherlands - 1 New Zealand - 1 Philippines - 2 Singapore - 6 South Africa - 1 Spain - 1 Switzerland - 4 Taiwan - 13 USA - 6
